February
18, 2009: Paula left on a "Trip of a Lifetime." She and
her SCUBA diving friends went to
Little Cayman Island. They hadn't even gotten to the island
before they started partying in Charlotte, NC.
|
Little
Cayman is in the Caribbean and is a part of the British Empire.
Note the green warm water and white beaches as seen from the airplane
carrying her there. The island is known for diving the famous
Bloody Bay Wall. |

Here
she is with a BIG smile after landing at the island and the diving
resort. She looks like a local...right? |
Little
Cayman is a wildlife refuge with exotic plants and animals everywhere. |

One
of the locals is the ever-present Iguana. They are not a danger to
humans, but can be large enough to scare a newcomer. |
Here
is a 2-foot Iguana looking for dinner. There were many of these
wandering around in the morning and late afternoon looking for handouts. |

The
island visit coincided with the annual Fat Tuesday parade...a part of
Mardi Gras similar to
Mardi Gras in New
Orleans.
|
The
national bird of Cayman is the
Grand Cayman Parrot. Unfortunately since the last hurricane
the locals believe there are none currently living on Little Cayman Island |

A
hammock to rest in away from the world. The temperatures were in
the 70's to 80's. When you are on island time, you haven't a care
in the world.
|
Sunset
on the beach. It doesn't get much better than this especially when
you room is just a few footsteps away. |

Oh
yes, Paula was there to dive from the dive boat Coral Sister.
Shown is one of the dive masters, Sharon. |
Paula
was one of 16 divers from Minnesota on this diving adventure. The
trip was arranged by MSD, the
Minnesota School of
Diving, in Brainerd, MN. As you can see, they have been here
in past years as well. |

You
can't leave a 10-mile long by 1-mile wide island like this without
remembering the warm air and beach. |
Sunsets
are beautiful on the island. Who would want to be elsewhere? |
|
|
Paula
and the bartender Mark had a wonderful time learning and doing card
tricks. Mark is an amateur magician and Paula is a wanna be
(Paula has to do a lot more practicing). |
Paula
enjoyed here one-and-only drink on the island. It was a $15
Drambuie.
She savored it and says she smoked part of a Cuban cigar that night.Paula arrived back in Brainerd, MN, at 3:30 AM on February 28th. The temperature in Brainerd was 18 degrees BELOW zero. Welcome back, Paula!

Blog Reader Comments: Hi Paula and Mark! Enjoyed seeing your photos from the recent dive trip to Little Cayman, Paula! I am sure that it was a fantastic trip. Some of the fish are just like puppies or kittens! So much fun! Take care! Mary from Walker, MN.
